How to get it printed
Plain, general advice. We are not paid by any printer and we don't recommend one company over another. Prices and options change, so check with the printer you pick.
At home
- Use cardstock for cards. Around 65 to 110 lb cover (about 175 to 300 gsm) is common. Check your printer's manual for the heaviest paper it takes.
- In the print dialog choose Actual size or 100%, not "Fit to page", so the size stays true.
- Turn on borderless printing if your printer offers it. If not, print with margins and trim with a paper cutter or ruler and craft knife.
- Set the paper type (cardstock, heavy or matte photo paper) so the ink dries well.
- Folded cards: print double-sided, flip on the short edge, then fold. Try one sheet on plain paper first.
- Business cards: our 10 per sheet PDF uses a common Letter layout. Check that it lines up with your card stock's template before printing a full pack.
Local print shop or office store
- Many office supply stores, copy shops and pharmacy photo counters print cards, postcards and photos.
- Bring the PDF on a USB drive, or email or upload it if they allow that.
- Ask for cardstock (or the finish you want, see below) and ask them to trim to size.
- Ask to see one proof before they print the whole stack.
Online printers, by type
- Postcard printers: upload the 4 × 6 PNG or PDF.
- Folded card and stationery printers: upload the front and inside PNGs, or the PDF.
- Business card printers: upload the single card PNG or PDF.
- Canvas and poster printers: upload the 8 × 10 PNG.
- Our files are cut size with no extra "bleed". If a printer asks for bleed, use its option to scale or fit the design, and keep important words inside the dashed line so a small trim is fine.
